Merry Christmas

Wishing each and every one of you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have enjoyed every one's blogs this year and looking forward to 2010. 2009 has been a challenging one to say the least. There have been ups and downs around every turn. I just hope 2010 will not be like 2009.
Our Christmas Eve was spent at my mom's with my family, my brother Mark his girlfriend Donna and Hannah's boyfriend Dakota. With me being possessed with taking picture I left my camera at home. It has not been a very good day for me. I was having a good day until I fell down the last two steps to our family room. I twisted my knee and boy does it hurt. I did not go to the ER as I am hoping that the pain will go away. If it is not better by Monday I will go to the doctor then. It's Christmas and I don't want to go to the ER. I'm not dying, so there is no need. lol
We will not have a white Christmas but rather a wet one. With lots and lots of rain. They said on the 5 o'clock news that it the rain would have been snow we would have had 20 inches by now. I would love to have maybe 3 inches of snow. It has been a few years since we had a white Christmas.
Any Hoo have a wonderful Christmas and my God Bless you and your Family. Don't forget our service men and women.

Holiday House at the Magnolia Manor

This is a tour of the Beautiful Magnolia Manor. My antique class went there for a Christmas luncheon on Dec. 3. I hope you enjoy the pictures, and if you are ever this way make it a point to stop by and take a look for yourself. It is breath taking.

This this the beautiful Magnolia Manor located in Cairo, Illinois. This home was built 137 years ago by Charles A Galigher, for his wife Adelia and their 3 sons, Frank, Albert, and Charles Frederick, also know as C. Fred. Mr. Galigher was a prominent citizen of Cairo. Mr Galigher fortune was accumulated through sell flour for hardtack to the government during the Civil War.

Through these business transaction, he became friends with General U.S Grant who made his headquarters in Cairo while planning and launching his siege of the south.

The construction on this house begin in 1869 and was completed in 1872.

The top of the Magnolia Manor, this is the cupola, a view of both the Mississippi and the Ohio rivers can be seen.

This is the entry way into the Reception Hall. The double doors are the original stained glass.

This is not the original chandelier to this room, this one came from a home in St. Louis. The original one for this room is still in the house. It now hangs over the dining room table. Notice the molding on the ceiling. The molding is plaster of paris and was made on site.

This is the Reception Hall, the pier mirror came from a river boat. The marble top table was used in the dinning room by Mrs. Galigher as a serving piece. The chairs are chapel chairs.

This is the top of the Christmas tree in the Drawing room all the ornaments and flower arrangement through out the house are for sale. I can say I did my part.

This is a picture of Mr. Charles A. Galigher it is located in the Drawing room. It hangs above the one of two fireplaces in this room.

Both fireplaces in the drawing room are made of Carrara Marble and originally burned coal.

This picture is of Mrs. Adelia Lippit Galigher it is located in the Drawing room, which is where we at lunch.

This is the start of the pictures for the kitchen. The V looking thing in front of the rocking chair is called a Gout chair. Or that is what we were told.

The table in the kitchen which was used by the help.

This stove came down river from Zanesville, OH. Where the family was originally from.

This is the call box that is located in the down stairs kitchen. It is said that the one in the Governess' room does not work as the children plugged it up.

The balustrade is made of cherry, Standing proudly on the newel post is a bronze French cavalier that is original to the house.

The fireplace in the Pink Bedroom.

This is the pink bedroom, it was originally a guest bedroom. After the Galighers's oldest
son , Frank, married he and his bride made this room their home. The bedroom set is walnut and Louis XV in style.

This beautiful arrangement is the the upstairs hallway.

This the small closest in the children's room. I could not fit a 1/4 of my clothes in there.

This little desk is in the children's room.

This is a walnut Renaissance Bed which President Grant Slept, notice the trunk at the foot of the bed is made of buffalo hide.

I took this picture in the Grant bedroom. President Grant slept here in 1880. Grant and his wife Julia, had returned from a tour of the world after his presidency. The hand stenciled ceiling is the most unique feature of this room.

This is a beautiful jacket found in the governess' room. I did not get many pictures in this room. This room was connected to the children's room. The fireplace in this room heated both the governess' room and children's room. This was so the children would not get burned.

The armoire in the master.

This is the bed in the Master room, this is the most dominant feature in this room. The bed, armoire and dresser are original Galigher Pieces. They are made of black walnut and are of the Renaissance style. Mrs. Grant and her nineteen trunks stayed in this room in 1880.

The Master bed room.

This is the fireplace in the Master bed room.

This is what I believe was a music box. I can't remember what the sign said. It was located in the Library.

Christmas Caroler's outside of the Magnolia.

This is another one of Cairo's stately mansions. It is also open for tours, and is decorated for Christmas.

This is where the Ohio River and the Mighty Mississippi River come together. The Mississippi is on the right and the Ohio on the left. Where they meet it caused a little swirl the in the river's. You have to be there to get the idea. The river's meet at Cairo Illinois.

Auction pictures

These are the only pictures that turned out from my auction. It was a long week getting ready for this, but would totally do it again. We had a good turn out but sales were ok. Nothing to write home about. I learned a lot from this.
The pieces in the picture are some very good Hull Autumn leaf and are rare in this condition.
I have had some questions asking if my husband and I are auctioneer's. No we are not. I can talk but not that fast. The auctioneer I am using is a good friend of mine and her father.

EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!

I have been very busy this week getting ready for my first auction at the building that my DH and I have been trying to purchase. We have not purchased the building as of yet, still waiting, but I did however rent it. In a previous post I mentioned that I was going to use half the building for an auction house and the other for my antique store. Well, let me just say I don't have room for both. I will post pictures later but it is full, with everything. I have a local Amish lady making baked goods to sell and another person is doing the concession stand for now. I hope to do it myself with the help of family and friends once we do get the buildings. Let me just say this is a great learning experiences for me. Check back for pictures. Until we meet again have a wonderful day. Lisa

Driver's Stay Alert

The road that Kyle was rear ended last night. Kyle was driving the tractor with the wheat drill behind, had just pulled out of a driveway up on the right side of the road and was turning left into a drive was about where I was taking the picture at. The car was about a mile down the road when he pulled out. The car had to be traveling at a high rate of speed. the driver said he look up and did not see any light, then looked down and back up and that is when he saw the flashing lights. The car that was behind that car said he saw the flashing lights 2 miles away. DH and I both think the driver as either texting, or dialing his cell phone.
This is our Wheat drill after the Acciedent. What part of bright flashing lights do you not see. The car hit the right back tire of the drill. The driver was very lucky that he was not injuried and neither was my son. No tickets were issued to the other driver. Which I can't believe. All the officer said was that, Farm machinery have the right of way either day or night it does not matter and that everything was working properly on our equipment.

The remains of the tire. DH and Kyle was able to get everything going this morning, they finished drilling wheat and are back to cutting beans, before the rain hits tomorrow. I wish it would hold off for a few weeks.

I love this picture of Tyler it is such a natural picture of him.

FFA Tractor Show

This is friend of mines little boy, Hunter wanted to drive all the tractors that were at the show. He did get to get the chance to be in the peddle tractor pull and won second. He had a great time.
This is the first Fordson tractor that I ever remember seeing. The man did a great job restoring it.

This is a few of the tractors that came. I had to leave before they all got there. According to my son, Tyler everyone seemed to have a good time. They had tractor games. a cake walk, inflatables for the kids and a peddle tractor pull. They are already making plans for next year. This was the first year for the show.
This was a fund raiser for there trip to the National FFA convention that is this week. As a matter of fact they left this morning. The Goreville FFA Chapter is to get an award. I will be watching RFDTV this week.

Friday night out with Mom

Last night my mother and I went to see the "Church Basement Ladies" Featuring William Christopher AKA "Father Mulcahy" from M*A*S*H. It was the BEST play I have ever been to. It is based in 1964 about 4 church ladies and the things that go on while cooking in the church basement. If you ever get a chance to see this production by all means go. Sorry I could not take pictures, they were not allowed.

Farming, and Rain

Hannah's first game in College against Rend Lake College. Her team lost.
Farming started to get into full swing here last week and now has come to a halt because of rain and more rain to come. We did manage to get the FFA beans cut. This is the first year they have had a crop. The field did well I am sure the FFA will be please. They are having an antique tractor show coming up in the 17th. Tyler is very active in the FFA, so this has been some new things for them to do for fund raisers.
As many of you know Rick and I have been trying to buy 2 buildings in Goreville. As you remember this has been going on since April. We were to have signed the papers on Sept 30. Well that did not happen. I had to get an attorney to find out what the hold up is and to try and get this done. In the mean time I am in the process of trying to find somewhere to have an auction. The building we are storing the items in is over fulling.
I will keep you posted. Have a good week. Lisa

I'm still alive

It has been awhile since my last post, I have had a lot going on. Such as my birthday, Daughter moving out, DOT audit, trying to keep antique booth's filled, and dealing with the building.
My birthday was on Labor day, I enjoyed a day of peace and quite. What else could one ask for. Hannah moved closer to school on Sunday. She was not liking the 35 min. one way drive to school everyday. So she moved in with some of her softball teammates. Her and her boyfriend Dakota broke up over Labor Day weekend. Yes he is the same one who was gone all summer to boot camp. She was heart broken. I don't blame her. Had a DOT audit for our trucking company last week. It was just to make sure we are doing things way the Federal Government wants us to do thing. Everything was good and learned a lot. Things in my antique booth's have been selling very well. I guess I brought back some wonderful items from the 127 yard sale. Last but not least we have been give a tentative closing date for our building for Sept. 30,2009. I just hope it happens. I need to have a couple of auctions there.
Harvest season will be starting within the next week. That will be some long days and nights around here. I love Spring when the ground is broke open for planting and Fall for the colors and the hum of Combines. Fall is coming early here in Southern Illinois, the crops are being harvested a little early and the leaves are changing colors fast. Seems to be going on all around the country as well. Enjoy the Fall colors. Lisa

AS some of you know my husband and I have been trying to buy 2 buildings, and this has been going on since April. Just to fill everyone in we are having some trouble getting that done. The seller agreed to the purchase price and signed the contract, The trouble is there are liens on the property, so an attorney has had to be brought into all this. The attorney has now let one of the lien holds take procession of the buildings. So we got an attorney to protect us as we had a contract. Which I have found out these days a contract is not what it use to mean. As of yesterday we have found out the the lien holder has agreed to sell us the property, that is unless there another lien that was not found in the first title search. Which I hope there is not any more liens. This has been one very large nightmare. I will keep you posted.

127 Yard Sale Finds

These Silver pieces will be made into lamps.
The two child's trunks were priced at $45.00 each. I got both for $50.00. The wood item in the floor was used to hold socket's.

This is a great child's kitchen cabinet. I have always want to find one and this one is great. I can just image being a little girl getting this for a gift and the excitement she must have had, with hours for fun.

Doll chest of Drawers, isn't it cute.

A drawer made into drawers. What a great way to turn trash into treasurer.

This is a cute Thread holder. It holds 4 different color of thread. It is now in my sewing collection.

This is only a small amount of what I got.

Hit the jackpot of Longaberger basket's. I also picked up the white shelf they are seating on.

Can you guess what it is? I'll give you a hint. It will make your bath warm.
Give up? A hot water heater. We came home with 3. This what Bob told us where we could get on at. Thanks Bob.

Corner Cabinet was the first purchase of the day.

Printer boxes I got 4 of them.

This cabinet was also one of the first purchases of the day. Came from same yard sale as the green cabinet

Margo at Junkin Journal would love these. I was thinking of her when I purchased them.
Well, that is some of what I got. Hope you enjoyed it, as much as I loved shopping for it.
